Whew. What a week. The boy and I left a week ago Saturday and flew to Burbank, CA (yay!). After a fabulous few days with friends we tracked down a rental car and headed off to Tehachapi (it’s okay, I didn’t know where it was either!) to help my mother-in-law sort through a bunch of storage. After a lot of dust, about 200 boxes and some good fun, we loaded up a truck, trailer and SUV and started the trek back to Oklahoma. Thus my extended absence.
We had such a good time traveling through California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The boy even agreed to make a detour to the Grand Canyon! I’ll have a ton of pictures to show you later on but I wanted to share with you my latest obsession – a.k.a. the succulent.
By absolutely no means do I have a green thumb. I scorched an herb garden when I was 7 and that’s about the extent of my gardening skills (although I did grow a pretty mean bean sprout in kindergarten and some tasty baby carrots in junior high). I love flowers but never think to grow them. Particularly since I’ve lived in an apartment for over 10 years!
While traveling through the desert I became somewhat captivated by all things cactus, however. And to top it off, there is so much Native pottery that it looks just stunning in. I wanted a cactus (I later realized I actually wanted a succulent, but you get my point). And then to my dismay, there wasn’t one to be found! We stopped at every trading post and souvenir shop along Route 66 seeking out the perfect little guy to no avail! I finally found one at The Big Texan in Amarillo, TX but just hated its “made in china” pot.
So here I am, sitting at home cacti-free and wishing I had one of these.
Well now, I am a lucky duck. When we planned out trip to Austin we were only thinking that the weekend worked for us. Happily, it was also the date for the first ever Renegade Craft Fair in the city. I had such a good time today! Free magazines, cool artists and some of the funnest kitschy crafts you’ll ever find. I even met etsy celebs like Daniellexo.
Here’s a preview of my haul today!
A long Coveted Bunny Tee from Gnome Enterprises!
About every 2-3 months I get the strongest urge to get out of town. I think perhaps I’m a gypsy.
Hopefully, my new treasury will calm the pull of the road.

This weekend I made the trek to my homeland of Tejas. It seems like the moment I crossed the Red River every radio station suddenly became country. I was inspired to share these beautiful things with you today!

I love, love, love (love!) travelling. At least every two months I get this itch to go somewhere. Anywhere. As a little girl I traveled quite often with my grandparents. We went everywhere from New Mexico to D.C. and I loved every little minute of it. That being said, I have no special place in my heart for hotel rooms. I always dream of a lovely room with no funny smells…a place where you can hop right into bed without cringing as you check the sheets. Sad to say, there are very few places that actually feel like home.
About a month ago, Mr. QUid gave in and we went on one of my much needed road trips. I booked a room just outside of Dallas and we hopped in the car ready for adventure. After a great day of shopping and sightseeing, we headed to Aloft, our hotel. What we found was a surprisingly cool building with a great atmosphere. The desk clerks were super friendly (well, we were in Texas) and our room was a clean and modern IKEA version of a swanky loft. Overall, I think they earned an A+. Thanks, Aloft!
What do you all like to do when travelling?
I thought it would be great fun to get to know a few of my fashion favorites in a more personal manner. The idea is to have a few of my favorite etsy sellers fill us in on “what they did over the weekend”. Fun, eh?
Just so you can learn a bit more about me…I’ll start.
This weekend, the hubby and I made a much needed trip to Ikea in Dallas for storage supplies. My crafting has officially taken over the apartment and I’m going bonkers! So off we went (in our “vintage” jeep), bouncing our way to the blue and yellow swedish monster.
Five hours later, there we were driving down the road with my newly appointed shelving system riding as the third passenger in the front seat. It’s official: Ikea has finally managed to separate me and my husband! lol! We had to spend the rest of the weekend literally yelling at one another through a particle board obstruction!
The hightlight of the weekend was when I found a great deal on a fabulous hotel. It’s called NYLO and has this great Urban Loft feel – complete with a fancy bed and concrete floors!
Oh…and I made a killer necklace to wear! When in the city, right?
A look at my weekend
